Hi Martin,

I have just recently found your web site, great stuff !! I have been trying for ages to find a decent photo of John Lear's A-26 #76 Invader, as raced at Reno in 1968. I am building an R/C model and would like to finish it  as such. Would you have any photos in your collection that would help? I know that this aircraft went on to fly with Airspray and I believe is now down under. Once again, GREAT site!!

Regards, Steve Hughes, Nanaimo, B.C. Canada.

The site looks great Martin, it tells a great story of a great aircraft. Thank you for the comments about my pictures, I take great pride in my work and I love to hear that others appreciate it too. As of now I have no profession, my photographs are a product of my hobby and love of aviation. However I'm studying to become a professional pilot.
The equipment I use consists of a Nikon D200, D50, Nikon 300 F4 AF-S sometimes coupled with a Kenko Pro 300 DG 1.4x teleconverter, Nikon 24-85,  Sigma 10-20 and a Nikon SB-600 flash.

Thanks again.

Hi Martin,
I found your website just recently, you have done a wonderrful job!  In reference to the Drone Carrier B-26’s, allow me to share some information for you for your special projects page one.  The photos include five DB-26’s, and three JD-1’s, starting at the top and working down.

Hi Martin,

You have a very nice website. I can’t imagine how much time you put into such and endeavor. I haven’t maintained my A-26 website for various reasons but most of all, just finding the time to do it. I put the site up using an application that I find to be very cumbersome to use and I’ve attempted to covert the site to an application more flexible, but I’ve always run into problems on the conversion and I’m left with starting over. Oh well, maybe some day I’ll get it converted. Good Luck with your site. I’ll pas the link to my crew.

Best Regards,

Carl ( Crew chief,  Reida Rae )

Dear Sir/Madam, came across your site and loved it, I have a site dedicated to the A-26 Invader and it seems that we have a great passion about our own aircraft types

......................................................................................................................

I was at nkp thailand and was the crew chief of 651 and latter on 645. Tail number 645 was called the war wagon and painted on the front of 651 the road runner. the plane 651 had a double engine change I remember I went up with the pilot to check the engines out after the engines changes and the pilot shut off both engines in flight and thankful they both started up. I was working on the flight line when i think it was 673 that crashed coming for a landing on the end of the runway I wasn't far from it when it crashed I was standing by 651 because it just came back from a mission. I also remember when 660 came in with it tail section all shot up. I have pictures of me looking up through the hole.

Hi Martin,

I came across your webpage while doing a search for the A-26 Invader. Great web site! Keep up the excellent work. Like you, I am also a fan of the A-26, as well as many other aircraft.

I was in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada last week and saw the Air Spray A-26s. Beautiful looking aircraft. I was speaking to Perry Dancause (Air Spray) on the phone the other day and he indicated that Tanker 98 had recently been painted up in RCAF markings and had recently been flown to Winnipeg, Manitoba (where I live). I am hoping to see it on the weekend and get some pictures. I can forward some to you if you like.

I have a question regarding the armament on the A-26 that I was wondering if you might be able to clarify. When the .50 cal machine guns were fired (6 and 8 gun nose), were the spent cases and links collected in the bottom of the nose and emptied later? I presume they were, because there are no slots in any pictures that I have seen that would indicate they were ejected from the aircraft. They would probably have damaged the props if they were ejected. Do you have any detailed drawings that you could send me showing where cases and links were collected?

I just found out that Squadron publications have put out a Walk Around on the A-26. Have you seen it yet? I have one on order.

I hope you can help me out and I look forward to hearing from you.

Ron Lapp

Hi Martin

Great site depicting a great aircraft. Well done - it's now in my list of favourites. If you see any more of my A/B26's on ABPIC give me a call - there should be no problem. I can always rescan them if you wish. I do have a few French AF examples on ABPIC.

Martin,
Your site is phenominal!!   Thanks so much for putting so much effort into honoring one of my favorites and one of the most beautiful planes of any era.
I'm including the words of Mike LeTourneau (relationship unknown) during correspondence we had in 2004 about my A-26 photos.

Hi there!

Someone just sent me to your site because you have several of my photos posted, and he thought I'd be interested.  I LOVE your site!  I'm glad my photos were of use to you.  Looks like you got them all off of airport-data.  My A-26 shots are just what I find at air shows and in museums.  I haven't checked all of them yet, but you might have all of mine and if not, I'll be happy to point out which ones in my A-D gallery you missed!

Keep up the good work!

Hello,
I have been looking at your fabulous web site of A-26 photos and had to contact you to let you know that I am currently working on former Air Spray Tanker 10. I am a volunteer A&P at the Classic Aircraft Aviation Museum in Hillsboro, OR and we purchased Tankers 10 and 4 from Airspray last summer. I am currently doing an anual inspection and repairs on Tanker 10 (we have re-registered it as N26PJ) in preparation for adding it to the airshow circuit next year. I am also the webmaster for our website at www.classicaircraft.org and have published my research there on the history of Tanker 10. If you have any further information or pictures that you would care to contribute to the history I would very much appreciate it. I would also be very happy to send you pictures of our two planes for your collection.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely

Robert

Hello Martin:

I just spent an enjoyable half hour scanning through your website as a result of your posting on the Yahoo Group (although I never did find the new photos just added).

I would like to contribute some photos to your site if you have room for more. I have several military ones, as soon as I can get my scanner working again, but wanted to ask as I don't find any on your site except for the Navy JD-1s.  It seems to me that all of the photos that you have under "Military" are actually civilian warbirds in military markings.  I am describing planes that were in the service at the time such as the rare ex USN JD-1 in the Royal Air Force shown in the attached photo.

This brings up an other point. I don't see any information on the photos, other than a set showing a current warbird etc., and I am wondering if this is a problem with the website?  In other words can you add a line of information with a photo?  An example is my photo of the USAF Reserve B-26B with the clouds. It would really add a lot if you could say that this was an Air Force Reserve plane at Hamilton Field, California, in May 1949.

Cordially,
Bill Larkins

Dear Martin,
I was really impressed with the wealth of Invaders that you have on display at your great website.  I didn't think that so many beautiful photos of the corporate versions existed.... which were especially interesting to me.  I applaud your time consuming efforts to pay tribute to such a great aircraft.

I have owned and flown Invader 313 since 1999, though the recent economic troubles of the U.S. airlines (passed on to its employees) has unfortunately dictated that I put it out to pasture for awhile. The operating costs just to fly the bloody thing were well over $2000. per hour, but it was fun while it lasted let me assure you!!
Here is 313 after it was sold at a government auction for $1776. in 1957.  It belonged to the 730th bomb squadron in Korea (The Rebels) and was known as the Magnet due to its affinity to attract flying metal.
Repair patches are still all over the old gal.

313 was the first B-26 to be converted into a "Borate Bomber" in 1960 and flew in this capacity for the next 26 years....  retired by Conair as Tanker 23.  It ended up with the Canadian RAF museum near Toronto from whom I purchased it in 1999.  You have a photo of it under Misc. Military when it was there.

Future plans for the Invader are to have a second set of controls installed along with a top turret.  Maybe then I can generate some interest in sponsors (ie. some rich, non-pilot, dot-com types just dying to get their hands on the controls) so that the aircraft won't languish too long while on display at the San Diego AeroSpace Museum at Gillespie Field.

So that's about it in a nutshell.  Nice work once again with your labor of love and keep up the good work!
Cordially,
David Lane

Let me know if you want some photos of 313 for your website and I will send some off along with the photo credits.

Dear Sir,

First of all, those are some great pictures. they brought back some memories when I was a Firefighter in California.

I am an ex C-130 and DC-10 Flight Engineer. Would it be possible for you to give me some information on contacts for a C-130 position?

Thank you,
Earl Winders

Martin, I am Richard Hudlow, Leader of the CAF, "Sierra Hotel" A-26 Group, located in Oklahoma City, OK,  USA. Your inquiry was passed to me via the Hqtrs CAF in Midland TX.
I do not understand why you were not able to contact us if you had accessed our web site, www.saveaninvader.org.  This email address is in that website as point of contact. The contact points that you showed are not those that we have seen. What do you do in aviation and what are your interests? We are restoring an old A-26 to flying quality and will operate it at displays and air shows for all to see and enjoy. Look to hear from you. Will check into your web site, as shown.  Where do you live in UK? Regards,  Rick Hudlow

Hi I was just surfing around and came apon your web site.
I worked for Airspray in Alberta Canada for 8 years as a tech on the invaders and loved every moment of it.

At first they were a large imposing airplane to me as all I had worked on before were Cessnas and the like.
But after a few days I was in love. they were so much fun to fly in just over the tree tops.

I have a few pic if you would like them just drop me a line

Hi,
A friend led me to your Invader site; VERY nice!  FYI on your photos:  The "green over white" aircraft in one shot is now the black and red "Spirit of NC" in later shots,  She is 44-35911 (N6840D)

Hi Midge,
I finally found a color slide of "Renold's Bombshell".
I thought you had a drawing of it but can't find it. I believe you had it in red.
This slide is the only color shot I have ever seen of the plane.
Hope this helps out.
Best Regards,

ps, I have just gotten my scanner going again so will send along more A-26 color shots.

Hi Midge,

Good to hear from you again! I was just over looking at your site, and it's coming along nicely. Great job!

One thing- when you contacted me about the photos, they were located at www.daveroofchallenge.com.  There's been a change-

The pictures have since moved, and they are now at www.scalefirebombers.com. I have a lot more A-26 pictures on that site, with more to come. From the link above, you'll go to the main menu, then select "Aircraft". You'll go right to the A-26 page from there. Feel free to use any of the A-26 pictures that you would like. Also, since I have moved the A-26 pictures, could you please change your credit from www.daveroofchallenge.com over to www.scalefirebombers.com? That would be great!

As to the A-26 profiles that you mentioned, I'd love to use those! I will put in a note on my website that they are courtesy of your website, and I'll have a link to your A-26 site.

I was also wondering if you would mind if I use a few of the A-26 pictures, that show that Airspray planes? Again, I'll credit your website as the source.

Thanks again! Looking forward to hearing from you again soon.

Cheers! :)

Dan

Hello,

I was surfing on the web and came across your site, one word describes it,,, FANTASTIC! I am also a fan of the Invader and have been for several years now. Your site has photo's that I've never seen before and the site's layout is easy working and the subjects are great. Thank you for all your hard work on this site. It is now one of my favorites.... Sincerely, Rick Shanner

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your reply, and I will let you know on your offer. I have a fair amount of Invader stuff too. Books, magazines, photos and clippings, if there is something you are looking for. I think the Invader is the most best kept secret of aviation and deserves so much more recognition. From wars to civilian use to the current day warbirds.Though my home is a bit of turmoil, due to redoing a large portion of it, this has been keeping busy for a bit and keeping me from my other interests.

I do most of my correspondence here at work, I am a 25 year jet engine mechanic for the Illinois Air National Guard ( F-4's thru F-16's), and I get better computor time before start time and lunch, but I do have a home computer, < invder26@aol.com > I get to check it once in a while when I can get on it, between the wife and daughters.

Great to meet a fellow Invader fanatic, hope all is well with you and hope to hear from you again. Rick Shanner

Dear Sir,

I'm so glad you took the time and interest to put this (your) site together.
I'm currently the crew chief on The Air Museum's RB-26C Invader which now
resides at our facility in Grand Canyon Arizona.
The aircraft, like many civil Invaders, is a ex fire bomber and was donated to
The Air Museum in the early eighties. Ever since then we've been trying to piece together
it's history. Without getting too "into" it , I have to say I was totally blown away when
I discovered an actual "flying" photo of it, and in color!
Without doing any real research we happened to come across now three photos
of  S/N 4435323, one from a Japanese publication, another from Air Enthusiast
and your website.

If you can help, me this is what I need......
A good copy of the current photo and /or where I might find it. (This photo is credited to Alfred Kirchner of Dalton, MA)
Any info on "323" regarding the missions and the pilots/crew  that might have flown her.

The photo on your site, as you know, is post Korean War and the yellow painted tips
were added after 53'. Otherwise it was all black with no distinguishing markings. All the photos we have show the aircraft from the rear, so I'm
very interested if any nose art or names were applied.
Also we have the data card from the U.S. Air Force that is not complete, apparently
323 left the States just before the end of hostilities in Europe but it says "Destination Unknown".
So I'm looking for any WWII history as well.
Pleas feel free to correspond with me on any matter regarding this aircraft or any other as well
as the going on's at the museum and our shop.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Please check The Air Museum's website - www.planesoffame.org for more info.

Thank You,
Sincerely,

Kyle Rohman C/C A-26C/ RB-26C 4435323

Hello, Mart,

I am sorry that I have not been able to reply. I have just come back from USA, two weeks ago. And have been occupied at work.

I am sending you some of the pictures I have taken of Scandinavian Historic flights A-26 Invader (suggerland express) All picrures have been taken at Notodden Flyplass in Norway. You can use these photos on your web site, just credit me as the photographer. You can send me the address to your web site when you are finished.

Hello Mart,

It would depend on the size of the scan that you would like to have and how many. I'm okay with sharing a few of the official USN photos as long as they are low-res.

In the meantime a scan of a USAF Invader that you are welcome to use is attached.

Martin!

Have added all the shots I took of "Sugarland Express" June 16th 2002 at Notodden Airport, Telemark, Norway.

Format is 1024x768. You can use them as you like. They can be made a bit lighter/sharpened in a photo editing program.

Best regards,

Alf Egil Johannessen

Martin, here are some cockpit photos of Tanker 10 I took on our first trip to Red Deer May 9, 2006. I'll send some more pictures in another email.
